Description
An American Girlhood Silk on Linen Needlework Alphabet and Pictorial Sampler, Probably New Jersey, Wrought by Charlotte Wright, Dated 1823. With five rows of script, lowercase and uppercase alphabets and numbers above a central floral medallion inscribed 'Miss / Charlotte M. Wright / 1823' amongst flora and fauna and four lines inscribed, 'GIVE ME O LORD THY EARLY GRACE / NOR LET MY SOUL COMPLAIN / THAT THE YOUNG MORNING OF MY DAYS / HAS ALL BEEN SPENT IN VAIN', all within a floral and vine border.
Dimensions: Sight 21 1/4 x 16 1/4in; frame 23 1/4 x 18 1/4in.
Condition
Not examined out of the frame. The linen with scattered discoloration and stains throughout and small losses. Framed and glazed. Frame with typical nicks and scuffs, otherwise good condition.
