Description
This painting, unfortunately damaged, depicts the activities and main events of Krishna’s life. His adventures, narrated in traditional sacred texts such as the Bhagavata Puraṇa, are a favourite theme of the master painters of Rajasthan. The deity is portrayed in famous episodes from his youth, when he lived among the cowherds of Vrindavan. A close look at the painting reveals scenes in which Krishna kills Bakasura (the crane-demon), or as he lifts Mount Govardhana or steals the clothes of the gopis bathing in a pond.
