Description
A large painting depicting Shukadeva, son of the sage Vyasa, who is the figure with the blue skin and halo sitting on the throne. He recites the Bhagavata Puraṇa to the other figure, King Parikshit, who is destined to die after seven days due to a curse. The upper part of the painting shows a lush landscape with a lake surrounded by palaces and a large tree enlivened by birds and monkeys. The iconography is very well known while the style is late and difficult to identify with a precise school as it does not adhere to any established visual vocabularies in vogue in the 19th century.
