Warren Court Photo with Nine Excellent Signatures
A 17" x 12" black and white photograph signed by nine Supreme Court justices of the Warren Court, circa October 1967 - June 1969, Washington. Photographer Abdon Daoud Ackad's studio stamp at verso. The photograph has a crease at right, far away from the image; a 1.5" tear at left, also not affecting image; some skinning and creasing at top. All flaws could be trimmed away to provide a near flawless image.Â
The justices sign below their images. Pictured seated, from left: John Marshall Harlan (1899-1971) as "John M. Harlan"; Hugo Lafayette Black (1886-1971) as "Hugo L. Black"; Earl Warren (1891-1974) as "Earl Warren"; William O. Douglas (1898-1980) as "Wm O Douglas"; William Joseph Brennan Jr. (1906-1997) as "Wm J Brennan Jr". Pictured standing, from left: Abraham Fortas (1910-1982) as "Abe Fortas"; Potter Stewart (1915-1985) as "Potter Stewart"; Byron Raymond White (1917-2002) as "Byron R White"; Thurgood Marshall (1908-1993) as "Thurgood Marshall".
14th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Earl Warren led the court between 1953-1969. Warren's court adjudicated landmark cases that shaped civil rights, criminal law, election practices, and the separation of church and state in the mid-twentieth century. Overall, Warren's tenure strengthened the power of the judiciary.
