Junior Torivio, (Native American, Hopi, mid-20th century) ca. 1980, "Hano Clown Kachina." A kachina figure hand-carved from cottonwood and painted as a Hano clown character with his characteristic black and white horizontal striped face, body, and costume. He sits on an integral pedestal and with a leather loincloth, neck pouch, and leather tassels on his headdress. In one hand is a drum beater and the other is the drum. The underside is signed and dated by the carver. The figure represents a jester or trickster that engages the crowds during rituals. Size: 3.75" Diameter x 5.5" H (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
