Description
A vintage color photograph showing mobster Meyer Lansky (1902-1983) posing in front of a red Volkswagen sedan with a whimsical advertising display, n.d. but ca. 1960s. The snapshot on Kodak photo paper was possibly taken in Sweden, judging from the signage on the car and above storefronts. The car's banner translated from Swedish reads: "The children's day book offers a Volkswagen as a lottery prize." Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. Expected wear commensurate with age including yellowing, and the slightest edge imperfections mentioned just for accuracy. Pen inscribed "156" verso. The photograph measures 5.125" x 3.5" while the slab measures 7.125" x 4.125."
Meyer Lansky was one of the most influential figures of the twentieth-century American criminal underworld. He was particularly well-connected through friendships and close partnerships with contemporaries Lucky Luciano and Bugsy Siegel. Lansky revolutionized the illegal gambling industry by working smarter; the so-called "Mob's Accountant" applied a scientific method of risk-reward, and mitigated loss through payoffs and international money laundering.
