Description
Wonderful pair of West African staffs with finials resembling spear points or knives.
Precise ethnography is uncertain though the treatment bears resemblance to shrine objects across Togo and Ghana (Losso, Adan, Ewe etc.)
Rendered from wood and covered thoroughly in successive coats of white kaolin clay. In the few places where the clay surface has broken off, incised texture is visible on each of the "blade" shapes.
Presented on custom steel bases.
Provenance:
Private Collection, Boston, MA
