Hand-Colored Engraving of Colonial Era "KING PHILIP"
c. 1800, Hand-Colored Engraving of the Native American Warrior Chief, "KING PHILIP", unknown Artist and date, Very Fine.
This early Hand-colored variation after Paul Revere's "PHILIP KING of Mount Hope" engraving measures 5.5" x 8" printed on a light evenly toned wove paper. Blank reverse has traces of prior mounting. The engraved image shows the Native American Warrior Chief standing, holding a Spear in one hand and a very long Peace Pipe in his other. A bow and quiver of arrows is slung on his back, while showing a tomahawk and knife held within his waist belt. Nice red, blue, yellow, black and green colors add eye appeal.
