Description
Native American, Western United States, Plains Tribes, Lakota (Sioux), ca. 1890s to 1910s CE. This is a fascinating double-sided doll representing Anog Ite, a mythical figure, also known as Double Face Woman, who embodies duality: with one beautiful and one ugly face as punishment for attempting to seduce another spirit. She wears Ghost Dance attire, featuring a brain-tanned dress in hand-painted motifs, glass trade bead necklaces, beaded moccasins, horsehair braids, and felt leggings. Size: 11.5" L x 5" W (29.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
