Description
A Thompson's patent, double guard, bell bottom frame made by Peter Gray in Boston with the correct plug-in glass fount and no. 1 twin tube whale oil burner affixed. The lantern is beautifully marked "C. V. R. R." in serif font on the lid reflector, with an embossed design opposite. The soot cap is embossed "CENTRAL DIVISION" in serif font as an added bonus. The globe is a clear, unmarked 6" extended base example, correct for this frame. The Thompson's patent information that is usually stamped into the bail saddle is not there. This is the early, smaller base version and there is no threaded ferrule for the top screw that secures the saddle. The patina is a real desirable olive gray, never any rust, and has a great eye appeal. Condition: (Excellent). Dimensions: 6 - 1/2" x 6 - 1/2" x 11 - 1/2".
