Description
A Thompson's patent, double guard, bell bottom frame made by Peter Gray in Boston with the correct plug-in glass fount and no. 1 ratchet burner affixed. The lantern is beautifully marked "FITCHBURG RR." in serif font on the lid reflector and bottom globe fitter skirt, with an embossed design opposite on the lid. The globe is a clear, 6" extended base example, correct for this frame, and heavily embossed "FRR" in serif font. The Thompson's patent information that is usually stamped into the bail saddle is not there. This is the later, larger base version and there is a threaded ferrule for the top screw that secures the saddle. The patina is a smooth medium silver, never any rust, and has a great eye appeal. There is a serial number "14668" stamped into the soot cap. If you're looking for the very best example of a Fitchburg Thompson, this is it. This is a very beautiful lantern. Condition: (Excellent). Dimensions: 6 - 1/2" x 6 - 1/2" x 12".
