Catalog #002, "Wind from the East" or "Hurricane #3: Marama can handle the canoe as well as a man", oil on canvas, signed, 1936, depicting a Polynesian woman cradling a young boy in her lap, sailing at the helm towards the viewer in high seas. An illustration for "The Hurricane" by Charles Nordhoff and Jas. Norman Hill. Appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post", Jan 11th, 1936. Caption: "The Wind is at east. There will be no danger of capsizing". In a replica gold gesso frame with linen cove, OS: 44" x 32", SS: 35 1/2" x 23 1/2", painting is in fine condition, stain to frame linen.
