Description
Catalog #2778. A narrative oil sketch white field illustration for "The Mystery at the Mill" by Melville Davidson Post, appearing in "American Magazine", August, 1929. Oil on canvas, signed lower right and dated 1929. Depicts a man in black suit and hat with a cane standing between two ancient weeping willows on a river's edge. Caption: "He stopped some time to study the current in the river and to examine its clay banks". Housed in a replica carved dull silver frame with linen iner, OS: 37" x 31", SS: 29 1/2" x 23 1/2". Fine condition. Title given on label from Fenn Galleries of Santa Fe NM verso.
