Group of five 19 c. Portraits related to the Savage family of New York and Wisconsin. There are several accompanying notes that accompany the images, one dated 1959 reads “This is the Savage wooden box containing daguerreotypes, packet photos of Doris’ mother- lovely, before (sp) she was married, and Don's father, also large photo Doris’ grandmother, Maggie’s mother. Have added printed picture of Col John A Savage, Cushman Davis...”
The featured portrait in this grouping is a pre-war sixth plate daguerreotype of Colonel John A Savage of the 36th Wisconsin Infantry, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Petersburg, Virginia in 1864.
The remaining images included are a ninth plate daguerreotype of a painting, identified as a member of the Savage family who “Died at 29 before cousin Edward's birth,” a ninth plate daguerreotype identified as “Andrew Savage, son of Uncle James S Savage, ” a sixth plate tintype of two men in a horse drawn wagon, and a ninth plate tintype of an older man contained in a wooden frame.
