Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE; Colombia, Narino culture, ca. 850 to 1500 CE. A lovely pair of pottery vessels with hand-painted decoration: a bowl from Ica culture and a jar from Narino culture. Enveloped in orange slip, the bowl presents a round yet stable base and flared walls that expand to a broad rim and a shallow basin adorned with an anthropomorphic yet lizard-like figure with 1 eye flanked by a pair of zoomorphs in black and white pigments. Alternatively, the jar boasts a rolled rim, a corseted neck, and a bulbous body, all covered in burnt sienna slip with black geometric motifs. Size of larger (bowl): 10" Diameter x 3.5" H (25.4 cm x 8.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Bowl is repaired with some minor losses along visible break lines, as well as a few minor nicks. Jar has stable pressure fissure on hip. Otherwise, bowl is intact and both are excellent with impressive remaining pigments
