Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A dazzling ring of a petite size with a body and shank that are formed from 73.3% gold. Within the ovoid ring bezel is a hand-carved, vermilion-hued carnelian intaglio featuring a right-facing depiction of Mars (Greek Ares), the Roman god of war. Mars presents nude whilst holding the top of a lengthy spear in his right hand and balancing a large shield on its bottom with his left hand, all while donning his signature helmet atop his slightly bowed head. Size (ring): 0.67" W x 0.76" H (1.7 cm x 1.9 cm); (shank): 0.67" Diameter (1.7 cm); (bezel): 0.59" L x 0.47" W (1.5 cm x 1.2 cm); (intaglio): 0.52" L x 0.39" W (1.3 cm x 1 cm); gold quality: 73.3% (equivalent to 15K+); weight: 6.7 grams; US ring size: 3.25

Wearable as shown. Minor abrasions to intaglio, shank, and ring body, with light softening to some finer details on intaglio, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina across ring body, and wonderful intaglio color.
