A delightful carnelian intaglio featuring the image of a male - perhaps intended as a Roman emperor or another leader - facing left set into a beautiful gold ring with an openwork, trifurcated shoulder and a narrow band. The verso of the ovoid bezel is incised with a starburst motif, while the middle-aged male presents a balding coiffure with a recessed hairline above petite eyes, a curved nose, a protruding chin, and a fleshy neck. A lovely wearable piece from the Victorian Era!
