A beautiful gold ring featuring a bloodstone intaglio carved with the bust of Zeus - Roman Jupiter - the Greek sky and thunder god who rules as king of the gods. The convex intaglio presents an opaque hue of green jasper with red inclusions of hematite and is finely carved with the bearded head of Zeus shown in profile facing left. His noble visage is framed by a thick, curly coiffure. Alternatively, the ring features broad shoulders, each adorned with an openwork starburst motif that tapers to a slender band. A lovely piece from the Neoclassical period!
