Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful gold ring set with a carnelian intaglio portrait of a Classically posed man in profile facing right. The adornment features a slender band and rectangular bezel with textured walls that flare out to hold the intaglio. The man displays a closely cropped coiffure and sharp features as a strap lies across his left shoulder. Size (ring): 1" Diameter (2.5 cm); (intaglio): 0.4" W x 0.6" H (1 cm x 1.5 cm); gold quality: 61% (equivalent to 14K+); weight: 7.1 grams; US ring size: 8.75
