Astor, John Jacob III ALS Dated 1877 on his 338 Fifth Avenue Stationery and Charles C. Tiffany (1822-1890) Legendary American financier, philanthropist and a soldier during the American Civil War, John Jacob Astor III was a prominent member of the Astor family, becoming the wealthiest family member in his generation. Here, Astor is writing to clearly a close friend, disappointed they were both in Venice but him not receiving a letter saying so. He then catches her up with family and reveals he will be sailing back to America out of Liverpool and signing J.J. Astor. As letter was sent from Geneva, Astor crosses through the NY mansion address and writes Geneva, August 29, 1877. 8 x 10" folded with only very light staining and minor splits in some fold lines. The most famous residence in NYC at the time was raised to build The Waldorf Hotel, then raised again after becoming The Waldorf Astoria to build The Empire State Building. Estimated Value $200 - 400
