Description
Central Asia, modern day Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, Bactria (Bactria Margiana / BMAC), ca. 2000 BCE. An unusual stone finial carving with concentric circles across the surface – this patterning is thought to be wards against the evil eye. A tubular drilled piercing through the neck into the body suggest this could have capped a slender rod perhaps made of bone or wood. The purpose of this intriguing stone is unknown- perhaps a decorative head for a pin to fasten garments. Size: 2" L x 1.125" W (5.1 cm x 2.9 cm)
