Description
Sam Newton (African American, born 1948). An original oil painting on Upson board. A Florida Highwayman wetlands landscape with a river, bird in flight, gnarly oak, palm trees, and other floral and foliate forms, all under a dawn sky. Artist signature to lower right S NEWTON. The artist was a founding member of The Florida Highwaymen, African American landscape artists mentored by Albert (Beanie) Backus (1906-1990). Presented in a rustic wood frame.
Dimensions: 28.25 X 40.25 X 3 in.
Condition: Good overall condition having moderate surface wear and areas with thinning. Frame having moderate storage wear to edges and corners. Water stain on verso. Estate fresh to the market.
