Description
(Newton, Lemuel (1950-2014)) Black, Albert “Blood” (B.1947) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Masonite - signed lower right A. Black 73. Executed in palette knife upon afield of brushwork. This Al Black salesman sample provides an excellent window into the "Highwaymen" term and sales process. Some of the artists who were not as skilled in sales methods, left paintings unsigned for Al Black to sell. As he sold one he placed his signature on the painting and paid the artist for his painting. This provided an opportunity for the artist to focus on painting as Al concentrated on his early craft of salesmanship. Board measures 24x36 framed to overall size of 26x38. African American Highwaymen Folk Art, evolved from the Backus Indian River School Art Colony. Condition: Very Fine
