Description
Second Isin Dynasty, Ca. 1150-1050 BC.The top and bottom of the sides are surrounded with hatched triangles as borders. The design between them shows a sacred tree in the middle and to each side a rearing bull. A Maltese cross serves as a terminal, and there is a hatched circle as a filler. A cuneiform inscription appears near the Maltese cross, meaning: Have a god! (i.e. "Be successful"). It is a rare type, and one engraved finely, but it is damaged and worn. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert. Size: L:57mm / W:17mm ; 29.67gProvenance: Property of a London gallery; formerly with a Mayfair Art dealer S.A.; ex. 1990s London collections, studied and catalogued by professor Lambert in the early 90s (with original note, signed by him). Previously in an old British collection formed since the 1960s.
