Description

HUGE Early Photography Archive, 100+ Pieces Total- Photo Albums, Tintypes, Cabinet Cards, CDVs

Extensive late nineteenth-early twentieth-century photography archive totaling over 100 pieces in all, consisting of two photo albums, one of which is in near pristine condition, 51 loose tintypes, 16 CDVs, 45 cabinet cards, and 4 daguerreotypes (3 ninth plates and 1 sixth plate). Expected degrees of foxing, soiling, surface cracks and scratches, and tearing to corners throughout. Please refer to images for further information on condition and contents. Overall, good condition- a tremendous collection!

Highlights include:

1. Pair of two photo albums, each measuring 5" x 6", n.p., undated. The first contains 50pp of CDVs and tintype portraits depicting men, women, and children alike- minor scratches and bumps to embossed leather cover, with expected wear to photos, else in immaculate condition. The second is empty with detached/exposed spine. Clasps holding cover together are still functional.

2. Group of 16 CDV portraits, with many featuring revenue stamps on verso, the majority measuring 2.25" x 4". During the Civil War, an act of Congress passed a new luxury tax on photographs, which required the photographer to adhere a revenue stamp to the reverse side of the image indicating the proper denominational value.

3. Group of 51 loose tintypes, the majority measuring 2.25" x 3", n.p., undated. Depicts striking, full body portraits of men, women, and children with some featuring rose tinted details on visage. Expected surface scratches and presence of oxidation to some.

4. Group of 3 ninth plates and 1 sixth plate all retaining their original cases, measuring between 2.5" x 3" and 3" x 3.75" respectively.

5. Group of 45 cabinet cards from studios throughout the U.S., mainly Tennessee and Massachusetts, the majority measuring 4.25" x 6.5". Features portraits of men, women, and children as well as several domestic scenes.
