Description
Signed and inscribed Woodrow "Woody" Wilson Guthrie (American 1912-1967) "#1 Struggle Album", 1945, presented to close friend and longtime correspondent Charlotte Straus, reading "To Charlotte, Christmas and New Year '46, Woody, Marjorie, Cathy. This is my struggling", with three 78 rpm discs, together with a five page graphite letter on three lined notebook pages, written December 6, 1945 discussing the album, in custom clamshell case. Provenance: Acquired Baum Rare Books, New York, August 21, 2010. Provenance from the Estate of Marjorie & Ralph Knowles, Atlanta, GA. Approx. the album h. 10.375", w. 12.125", d. 0.5"; page h. 10.5", w. 8"; the case h. 11.25", w. 13", d. 1.25".
Condition
Foxing to album boards, edge wear with bit of loss to spine, hinge partially detached, 78s appear to be in good condition - untested, toning and some stains to letter, staple at upper left corner, previously folded.
