Africa.- Fries (Lorenz) [Tabula Nova Partis Africae], rare Ptolemaic map of Southern Africa, a reduced version of Waldseemuller's map of 1513, from 'Claudii Ptolemaei Geographicae...', woodcut with full early hand-colouring, on laid paper with watermark of an anchor within a circle, sheet 370 x 480 mm (14 1/2 x 18 7/8 in), decorative woodcut border with Latin title verso, central vertical with some careful repairs, notably marginal loss to upper centre, surface dirt and handling creases, unframed, [Strasbourg, circa 1525].
