Description
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of ovoid form covered in lustrous olive-green glaze. The topside presents with insectile features such as a folded wing carapace, sinuous legs, and a petite head. The bottom is incised with a recumbent sphinx, and between its wings is a cartouche meant for an individual named, "Men Neb Hetep." The scarab is pierced lengthwise for suspension. Size: 0.6" L x 0.48" W x 0.26" H (1.5 cm x 1.2 cm x 0.7 cm)
