270. FRENCH BISQUE MUSICAL, AUTOMATON “HINDU DANCER” ATTRIBUTED TO ROULETTE ET DECAMPS. 21". Marks: 1248 Simon & Halbig S & H Germany. Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head lady with brown glass eyes, mohair lashes and painted lashes, feathered brows, open mouth, four tiny teeth, brown wig, lady-shaped torso body with hinged hips, wire arms with bisque forearms, original costume which is worn and fragile, tambourine in right hand and bells in left hand. When wound, music plays and she shakes the tambourine and undulates her torso.
Commentary: Attributed to Roullet et Decamps, circa 1900; however, key is not marked R,D.; rare and delightfully amusing automaton, wig not original, right arm does not move, two finger tips broken on right hand.
