Description

103. RARE FRENCH BISQUE AUTOMATON BY VICHY WITH JUMEAU HEAD. 16". Bisque head lady by Jumeau has brown paperweight eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, closed mouth, pierced ears, original mohair wig, molded papier mache body with bisque forearms, stands atop large round painted base and holds watering can over wicker flower basket with hinged lid which contains little closed mouth bisque doll with brown glass eyes and outstretched arms; beautifully costumed in original style, has original red stockings and tan leather shoes. When key is wound and lever activated, the music plays as she lifts and turns head, raises and lower arms as if watering flowers; then basket lid lifts and reveals the child posed inside. Commentary: Delightful automaton, circa 1885; Excellent condition with well-functioning music and motion.
