Description
Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Tho. Mifflin,” one page, 23 x 12.5, October 7, 1794. As governor of Pennsylvania, Mifflin grants unto Andrew Swearingen "the out lot numbered fifty eight" pursuant to "An Act to empower the Governor to lay out a town and out-lots at the mouth of Beaver creek." Signed on the left side by Governor Mifflin, and countersigned at the bottom by Alexander J. Dallas as secretary. The large white paper seal affixed to the upper left is fully intact. In fine condition, with a small hole, a small fold split, and some irregularity to the vellum along the edges.



Mifflin (1744-1800) was a Rev. War General, Washington’s Aide-de-Camp, President of the Continental Congress, Signer of the US Constitution, and 1st Governor of Pennsylvania. Dallas (1759-1817) went on to serve as Secretary of the Treasury and Acting Secretary of State and War under James Madison
