Thomas Mifflin Superb Signed 1795 Land Deed
Partially Printed Document Signed, "Tho Mifflin", 1p, on vellum, 20.5" x 11", Philadelphia, August 31, 1795, a deed for a 466 acre tract of land called "Denmark" from Henry Collins to Joseph J. Miller. Countersigned by James Trimble as Deputy Secretary. Intact embossed paper-covered wax State Seal at top left. Docketing at verso, with two additional intact seals present. Expected folds with minor separation and a loss at right-side fold intersection. Light soiling and discoloration. In very good condition. Mifflin's large signature measures 3.25 in length!
Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800) was an American merchant, soldier, and politician from Pennsylvania who, during the Revolutionary War served as aide-de-camp to George Washington and, after serving as a delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, became a signer of the Constitution. A year later in 1788, Mifflin succeeded Benjamin Franklin as 7th President of Pennsylvania, later presiding over the committee that wrote Pennsylvania's state constitution which replaced the Executive Council with a single governor.
