Signed on March 10, 1796. Partially manuscript and partially printed on a large vellum sheet measuring 21\" x 11.25\". Countersigned by Deputy Secretary James Thimble at lower left. With a large and ornately printed headline, \"The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.\" Also 2x featuring the Pennsylvania state seal, once in an 8-pointed star form embossed seal at upper left, and once in a F. & R. Bailey printed vignette at upper left. Displayed in a floating mount behind Mylar plastic. Not examined out of the wrapping. Expected folds and minor stains, else in good to near fine condition. This land deed signed by Governor Mifflin authorized the transfer of 400 acres of land in Londonderry Township (a southeastern suburb of modern day Harrisburg, situated along the Susquehanna River) from John Cheek to William Cathcart. In part: \"The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye, that in consideration of the monies paid by John Cheek into the Receiver-General\'s office of this Commonwealth at the granting of the Warrant herein after mentioned there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said William Cathcart a certain tract of land called \'Falmouth\' situate in Londonderry Township Bedford County… In Witness whereof Thomas Mifflin Governor of the said commonwealth hath hereto set his Hand, and caused the State Seal to be hereunto affixed the Tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven thousand seven hundred and ninety-six and of the commonwealth the Twentieth…\" Thomas Mifflin served as the 1st Governor of Pennsylvania between 1790-1799. The Philadelphia merchant and Patriot had served as General George Washington\'s aide during the Revolutionary War, and eventually attained the rank of major general. Mifflin signed the Constitution as one of eight Pennsylvania delegates at the Philadelphia Convention in 1787, though he is not usually cited in the renowned list.
