Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 500 BCE. A nicely preserved stone mace head made from a mottled light gray stone. The conical form features 4 rows of 8 protruding nodules for a total of 32 nodules, each capable of concentrating a majority of the force behind a swing onto the point. The interior is biconically drilled and shows how it would be attached to the end of a wooden pole. Size: 3.3" W x 4.4" H (8.4 cm x 11.2 cm)
Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000

Light pitting, nicks, and abrasions to exterior surfaces and both rims, otherwise intact and very good. Nice surface smoothness across exterior.
