Description
13 star American flag, hand stitched, made of wool bunting. Has 13 hand stitched appliqued stars in a 3-2-3-2-3 pattern with the points up on both sides of the canton. Also has 13 hand stitched stripes making up the field. The Fly is hemmed with double stitching and is nailed to a carved stick on the hoist side. Has some weave separation at the top and bottom left of the canton, as well as some small holes throughout and fading to the canton. Is an absolutely beautiful piece that is well known as the Francis Hopkinson (1737-1791) flag. Francis Hopkinson was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the designer of the great seal as well as our first coin. This was the official flag of the nation from June 14, 1777 to May 1, 1795. Unsure if this was used as a Naval Jack flag, as Hopkinson's flag was first designed for the Navy and then used as the official flag. Measures approx. 28" tall x 42" wide. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. All items are shipped USPS or UPS and will be billed separately. A $12 handling fee is added to the shipping price per lot if shipped in house. Some items or large quantity of purchases will be packed and shipped via the UPS store. Local pickups are at our South Brunswick location on Friday, Saturday and Monday ONLY! All pickups are by appointment only. Any condition issues will be listed in the description. Please read the terms for full information.
