c 1860 s BIG BLOCK PRINT, SAILOR POSTS 34 STAR AMERICAN FLAG to LIBERTY CAP POLE
Description
Circa 1860s Patriotic Block Print. Design portrays a diligent sailor halfway up a long pole or mast, hanging a large US American 34 Star Flag. Spirited illustration with flag flying in the wind. Although the flag is partially furled, I can count 34 stars (some have only a small area visible). A liberty cap is proudly perched on the mast. The semi-circular black line at the bottom of this piece gives the illusion that the scene is being viewed through a mariner's telescope. Three color printing in bright red, blue, and black ink on paper which is about 23-1/2" x 18-5/8"--a nice framable size for display. Condition: soiling, staining, creases, fold lines, edge wear and tears, occasional archival paper tape repairs on the reverse. light pencil writing on the reverse reads; "14 broadsides". Please see photos for additional condition review.
