Description
Native American, Southern Colorado Plateau, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) culture, Tularosa, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A large, hand-built pottery bowl with a stable base, tall walls, a deep basin, and a thin rim. The vessel is well-polished and covered with a cream-hued slip, while the interior walls boast repeating rectangular spirals in black pigment around the center of the basin. Size: 11" W x 5.5" H (27.9 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private South Carolina, USA collection; ex-Artemis Gallery, Louisville, Colorado, USA, July 25th, 2019, lot 78; ex-Joan Shaw collection, bought in 1971; loaned to the Mesa Verde Museum, Mesa Verde, Colorado, USA, accession number 591, catalogue number 8512, 1962 to 1970; ex-Bill Mitchell collection, Cortez, Colorado, USA, acquired from 1958 to 1962

Condition
Repaired and stabilized along walls and base, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to rim, base, and basin, with fading to original pigmentation, and tiny pitting holes scattered across surfaces. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original pigmentation throughout. Old inventory number written in black ink beneath base.
