Description
Rare Geringsing Double Ikat Textile, Indonesia, C. 1950. Geringsing "Gogengongan", sacred textile. This sarong or saput was worn as a ceremonial garment. It has a cotton warp and weft ikat design based on patola patterning. Constructed from two pieces and sewn along the white cotton selvage edge. Size: 5' x 2'8'' (152 x 81 cm). Provenance: Ex. Roger Hollander collection.
