Description
A very rare and desirable Double Ikat weaving known as Geringsing , the ritual cloth found only in Tenganan village, Bali, Indonesia. I collected this piece personally from the family of Ketut Panaca, and according to him this cloth took 5 years to complete, from the harvest of the cotton until the final drying of the textile, after several labor intensive process, to create the only double ikat like it in the world. ** See photos of the Artist, her home and some of the items used to create the textile including the back-strap loom and the natural indigo dyes. This Ikat features a very intricate design with traditional patola and a unique Scorpion motif. The Cloth is original as it was taken off the loom, it has never been cut so it is in its original state (in the round). The textile measures 34 Inches ( 68 inches if threads on bottom are cut to create the ceremonial sash) and 14.5 inches wide. An original example with all natural dyes.
