Description
Sumba Ikat , Indonesia, Mid/Late 20th C. Cotton. Man's 'Hinggi' shoulder or hip cloth from East Sumba. The cloth is decorated in a warp-ikat multistep dyeing process using natural vegetable dyes. Traditional motifs include confronting royal horses facing a 'sacred tree', and a series of geometric cruciforms and diamond patterns in the central field called 'patola ratu'. Size: Size: 4'2'' x 8'3'' (127 x 251 cm).
