Manuscript receipt book bearing ownership inscription of Ann Senhouse ('Ann Senhous her Book of Recipis 1721'), containing some 130 culinary and medicinal recipes, including 'To distill hot water of popys', 'To make the Countess of pembrooks Surfeit water', 'A Sock Good for ye Soccitica', 'A Receit for to wash ye Face', 'To Make ye Bath Cheese Cakes', 'To make a very Good Pudding', 'To make a Hare Pye', 'Pickle Ashen Keys', 'To Make Mrs Stoners Cake', 'To Make the thin winter chese', 'To make Solid Soap' ('will keep an East India Voyage if it be not laid in a moist place'), recipes numbered up to 113, remainder unnumbered, some later recipes written on blank versos, margins ruled in red, calligraphic headings, some in red ink, pen trials and faces drawn on inside covers in pen and pencil with additional ownership inscription of George Dodd, 32 leaves, dust-staining and other marks, edges frayed, 8 leaves cut down with no loss of text, contemporary ruled vellum boards with title 'Dover' and date '...the 13th: 1690: price 3s' in ink on back board and, inverted, 'Torksey' and 'Senhouse' on front board, marked and worn, binding cracked and loose, 310 x 210mm., early eighteenth century; with an additional 30 leaves of recipes written on blue lined notebook paper, stitched, nineteenth century (2)
