Petit masque Ekpo exhibés lors de la fête des ignames.
Un visage circulaire en haut-relief vient s’inscrire sur un disque rayonnant, l’ensemble rehaussé de pigments.
Les éléments formels et décoratifs de ce masque seraient des symboles lunaires en rapport avec les croyances des Eket qui associent la déesse créatrice ou « Grande Mère » (eka abbassi) à la lune.
Un socle de présentation sur mesure sera inclus avec le lot.

Ibibio Eket "ekpo" style mask, Nigeria
Medium-hard wood, pigments
15 x 15,75cm / 5 7/8 x 6 1/4"
Small Ekpo mask exhibited during the yam festival.
A circular face in high relief is inscribed on a radiating disk, the whole enhanced with pigments.
The formal and decorative elements of this mask are lunar symbols in relation to the beliefs of the Eket people who associate the creative goddess or "Great Mother" (eka abbassi) with the moon.
A custom-made display stand will be included with the lot.
