Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A mold-formed pottery vessel featuring important anthropomorphic beings positioned in the center of each side. Resting on a flattened, stable base, the rounded blackware body supports a flared spout with a slender neck. One side depicts a standing man in a grand outfit with snake heads protruding from his waist and flaring staffs to his sides. The obverse face of the body displays another stylized figure who wears a grand, tumi-shaped headdress with snakes emerging from the top, arms outstretched towards two shorter, almost simian figures with elongated heads. Size: 6" L x 3.5" W x 6.5" H (15.2 cm x 8.9 cm x 16.5 cm)
Provenance: private Plano, Texas, USA collection, inherited from father in the 1990s
