Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished blackware pottery vessel depicting a seated man as he plucks his chin with a set of tumi-shaped tweezers. The vessel exhibits a slightly rounded but stable base, an apple-shaped 'body' which doubles as the figure's body, a spout-form left arm, and a head-shaped spout with a trio of petite perforations on top, perhaps for use as a rattle at one time. The man plucks his face with the tweezers perhaps to keep himself nicely groomed, and above his almond-shaped eyes and prominent nose is a cord-patterned headwrap. Size: 4.7" W x 6.75" H (11.9 cm x 17.1 cm)
