**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima, Nayarit, or Jalisco to Aztec culture, ca. 300 BCE to 1500 CE. A large collection of 76 pottery spindle whorls for spinning maguey and cotton, with a shell and stone bead included as well. The whorls are plain or slipped in red or painted with bitumen black pigments, and the larger whorls and many others have incised linear and geometric motifs etched into the surface. There is an overall excellent amount of variety in shape and sizes throughout this gathering, and these could be used as beads or pendants for jewelry today. Size of largest: 2.25" Diameter x 1.75" H (5.7 cm x 4.4 cm)
Provenance: private Kansas, USA collection, acquired via descent from family in Jalisco, Mexico ca. the 1940s, and imported into the US in the 1970s and 1980s
