Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A selection of hand-carved Spondylus shell ornaments including 12 tubular beads, 3 petite zoomorphic amulets, and a C-shaped bead with serrated edges. The largest artifact is a zoomorphic pendant with extended arms, bent legs, a gently arched body, and a massive tail that tapers to a thick tip; a biconical suspension hole is drilled laterally through the body. Size of largest (zoomorphic pendant): 4.875" L x 1.3" W (12.4 cm x 3.3 cm); (case): 6.25" L x 5.25" W (15.9 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: private Kansas, USA collection, acquired via descent from family in Jalisco, Mexico ca. the 1940s, and imported into the US in the 1970s and 1980s

Repair to petite peripheral areas of C-shaped bead, and restoration to proper right arm of zoomorphic pendant; remaining items are intact and very good. Each item has light abrasions and encrustations, with softening to finer details of zoomorphic pendant. Nice preservation to overall forms and shell coloration.
