Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca or Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 600 to 900 CE. This is a gorgeous ancient textile that is woven using camelid wool and natural dyes. The panel is rectangular with horizontal registers of alternating patterns: solid boxes with squares inside, and a continuous band of flowing diamond shapes made of individual stepped squares. The colors are a rainbow, consisting mainly of blues, reds, pink, yellow, and brown. The piece is mounted on a modern cloth backing to preserve the fibers, and this piece is quite stunning with great preservation to the vibrant hues. Size: 37" L x 30.75" W (94 cm x 78.1 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, purchased June 2021; ex-Colorado dealer collection, USA, acquired in the 1980s

In fair condition, fraying, tearing and losses as shown. Pieces of fabric are looser and tearing away. Mounted on a modern brown cloth backing to preserve the textile. Staining and discoloration to cloth backing. We recommend framing in a case to protect the piece. Great remaining pigment and patterns.
