Prima edizione di quest'opera importante, in parte originale e in parte collettanea, del celebre botanico e naturalista francese Charles de l'Ecluse [1526-1609], originario dell'Artois, la cui attività si svolse prevalentemente a Leida, dove collaborò strettamente col Plantin. Ultima opera pubblicata dall'autore, contiene la descrizione e la rappresentazione di numerose specie botaniche e animali esotiche o poco note, con l'indicazione delle proprietà medico-farmaceutiche. In aggiunta al suo testo, il Clusius vi aggiunse le versioni latine, opera dello stesso Clusius, dei testi di Nicolas Monardes, e del naturalista francese Pierre Belon [Bellonius], il primo dedicato soprattutto ai medicamenti introdotti dal Nuovo Mondo, e il secondo alle specie provenienti soprattutto dal medio ed estremo Oriente. First edition of this important work, partly original and partly collective, by the famous French botanist and naturalist Charles de l'Ecluse [1526-1609], a native of Artois, whose activity took place mainly in Leiden, where he collaborated closely with Plantin. Last work published by the author, it contains the description and representation of numerous exotic or little known botanical and animal species, with the indication of the medical-pharmaceutical properties. In addition to his text, Clusius added the Latin versions, the work of Clusius himself, of the texts of Nicolas Monardes, and of the French naturalist Pierre Belon [Bellonius], the first dedicated mainly to medicines introduced from the New World, and the second to species coming mainly from the Middle and Far East.
