William Withering was an 18th-century English botanist known for his books on physical and natural sciences. Perhaps his most important book was “An Arrangement of British Plants” which was the first British flora to use the Linnaean system of binomial nomenclature as well as the first complete book of description and classification of British plants.
This rare 1796 four-volume edition includes 29 full-page and folding illustrated engravings that feature hundreds of figures of plants, leaves, and flowers. ‘Arrangement of British Plants’ has been a highly desirable work since its first appearance in 1770, and, according to Lowndes, is ‘an esteemed work!’
