Description
North America or Europe, Mexico or Spain, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A wonderful pair of terracotta bowls, each displaying a flat base and thick walls that span outwards to a broad rim. Both interiors are enveloped in lustrous, tangelo-hued glaze and boast incised decoration of 3 horizontal bands just below the rim and an abstract, spiraling motif resembling a flower at the center of the basin. Size (both about the same): 6.2" Diameter x 2.6" H (15.7 cm x 6.6 cm)
Provenance: private Kansas, USA collection, acquired via descent from family in Jalisco, Mexico ca. the 1940s, and imported into the US in the 1970s and 1980s

Condition
Repair to side of 1 with break line visible. Other is intact. Both have expected surface wear with nicks, chips, and abrasions. Otherwise, both are very nice with great craquelure to glaze.
